Burning Man's statement on Transformus 2008

Dear Interested parties and attendees of Transformus:

We write you today to address the recent wave of public comment and
question about the status of Transformus as an official Burning Man
Regional Event. Beginning in March 2008, Burning Man has been in
receipt of multiple comments and complaints regarding certain aspects of
the production of Transformus and as of Monday, June 23, we made an
official statement to the Transformus LLC members regarding this matter.

Transformus is a Burning Man Regional Event that requested and received
its “official” status in 2005, during its first year in existence. As
you may know, any event that is designated as an official Burning Man
Regional Event has a relationship with one or more Burning Man Regional
Contacts, who must agree that the event will uphold and adhere not only
to Burning Man’s Ten Principles
(http://regionals.burningman.com/network_principles.html), but to an
additional set of criteria required by Burning Man designed to assure
that the event is actually legal, permitted, insured, of benefit to the
entire community, and available to all who wish to attend.

Whenever one or more formal complaints are made about an event or a
Regional Contact, Burning Man makes careful effort to address them
directly. There is a process for a formal investigation into the
allegations made in a Regional Contact/Regional Event complaint, one
that includes interviewing and engaging with as many members of the
local community as possible to gather information and make inquiry. (If
you are not familiar with the process to send us feedback about things
happening in your region, please take a look at this page:
http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_feedback.html.)

The member of the Transformus Board of Directors had themselves been
active in asking for support and guidance from Burning Man over the past
several months as the problems with this event came to a head; in fact,
in light of those requests and the comments and complaints we had
received, Burning Man sent its Regional Network Coordinator Bex Workman
to Asheville, NC in April to meet in person with the Transformus Board
of Directors as well as members of the local community to try to gain a
better understanding into the issues the organization was facing and try
to offer some support.

Part of Bex’s purpose on this trip was to obtain information and
background from as many sources as possible, and by sending a staff
member to engage in person we hoped to come to better understand the
ticketing and technology issues with Transformus that had been brought
up for review. This visit was in addition to a number of visits that Bex
had made to the area, including two annual trips to the Transformus
Work/Play weekend, and she and Steven Raspa had both made multiple other
check-in visits with active Transformus community members over the past
3 years. Both individuals had been involved in many emails and phone
conversations and mentoring with various Transformus leadership as welll.

After Bex’s most recent visit, and following months of investigation,
many phone calls, visits and conversations, the Regional Committee has
come to the conclusion that Transformus, as it exists today, has not
been able to operate in full alignment with the principles and criteria
required to be an official Burning Man Regional event in 2008.
Specifically, the investigation has determined that the event has been
unable to uphold the tenets of Civic Responsibility and Transparency.
For example, this was seen in its inability to notify participants of
their invitations in a timely fashion, and to clearly and publicly
illustrate the methodology and fairness of that invitation process – as
of this writing there still seems to be ambiguity and frustration for
some participants, and dissent about the nature of the process, and a
need for a public address of the grievances that have been raised.

One other example is the Board Of Directors’ failure to post timely
and detailed accountings of previous events’ financial reports to the
community, either through the event’s announce list, the regional
announce lists, or through the Transformus website; timely, transparent
accounting is a strong requirement in order to maintain good standing as
a Burning Man Regional Event, but it is especially important when there
have been accusations of inaccuracy in bookkeeping. We have made
recommendations about when and how to share this bookkeeping that have
not been able to be met, although we are aware that the group are still
actively pursuing making this posting.

Among the complaints that were shared with Burning Man, some of the
most prominent were related to incomplete bookkeeping and imprecise
nature of the invitation process. As we understand it, efforts are
underway to remedy this matter, but in the strictest sense, the prior
Transformus events have failed to follow the guidelines outlined by
Burning Man and cannot truly be said to have upheld those standards.

It was a very difficult decision for us to move to suspend Transformus’
official status; however, the value in having and engaging in the
Burning Man Regional Network lies in the ability to truly identify that
certain standards and benchmarks of the Burning Man community are in
place for any event, and if they cannot be met or verified readily by
the casual observer or participant, even by the best efforts of the
persons involved, it is our duty to encourage the production team to act
to bring things back into alignment, as well as to inform the public
about our official position on the event.

In this case, although we do not believe any individual engaged in
wrongdoing, we do believe that the business entity behind Transformus is
clearly faced with a need to stop and reflect, as they have done, and in
the meantime, the current state of affairs has left little choice but to
act to address the complaints and agree that Transformus organization as
it stands is not in a position to be identified officially as a Regional
Event in 2008.

However, although Burning Man has announced that Transformus 2008 will
not qualify for official Regional Event status, we do remain actively
engaged in an effort to encourage and support the Transformus board and
the many people who produce the event, and to assist them in moving
through this period as they reflect on their leadership and determine
the common goal for its future. Although there are transitions and
challenges afoot, we want to make it clear that we believe that there is
ample enthusiasm and dedication to help rally the community to resolve
these issues together and move beyond this conflict; we are confident
that you can and will create an event that your region can be proud of,
and that leadership will guide you through and hold the center, whatever
that turns out to be.

Indeed, the Burning Man Project has every intention of continuing to
offer its support to you, and it is our hope that Transformus will seek
and regain its official Regional Event status in the future. We do still
intend to send several members of our staff to support Transformus this
year; both Bex Workman and Wally Bomgaars aka:Odwally (DMV, Rangers)
will still be sent out to offer their assistance, expertise, and sweat
to help produce Transformus, just as had been previously planned; Ranger
Splinter is also still planning to conduct a Ranger Training at the event.

We also remain eager to help to connect all interested parties with any
others in the Burning Man Regional Network who might offer their insight
and assistance through their similar experiences, whoever they may be.
We are in frequent communication with the Burning Man regional contacts
in the area who are involved and concerned about this event. Regional
Contacts are individuals who have satisfied a set of established
leadership criteria to be a contact point in a particular area, and
we’re depending on them to help translate Burning Man's expectations to
the communities they represent and to let us know what other support we
might provide. Truly, although we know the ultimate solutions are up to
the community, we still want to be as supportive as possible if we can.

However, we know that the biggest component in Transformus (the event)
solving its current spate of issues is Transformus -- the community --
deciding together to figure out how to solve them. We’ve never seen it
as our place to tell another event what to do, even those within our
“Network” – we offer what we offer by way of affiliation or relationship
and shared principles, not by ownership or dictation. Our desire to help
is not about us illustrating what “we” think “you” should do – it’s

about us sharing what our experiences have been with you, introducing
you and connecting you to others with similar experiences, and offering
whatever we do know about building community and about producing events.

In this case that experience tells us that when things go off course
and personal actions are in doubt, it helps for everyone to reflect on
their shared values, sometimes in a public process, and this can help
you to see what you can do to get back to them, together.
And yes, we have the Ten Principles, and perhaps those are a place to
start a discussion, but we trust that there are many viewpoints and sets
of ideals among those who would consider themselves participants at
Transformus. Thus, we won’t deign to try to ascribe those values to
everyone who attends that event, but we do offer them as a place to
start, especially since we’ve found them useful so often ourselves.

Burning Man isn't trying to tell Transformus that we have the solution
for them, although we believe that we have tried to offer some input and
possible solutions for consideration. Ours is not to direct, dictate,
nor even to suggest what you should do in your local groups from all the
way over here in San Francisco, and no matter how many staff members we
send to visit, we only know what you and your community are telling us,
but ultimately the solutions are up to you. Either way, we’re certain
you’ll still come together and make Transformus great this year, and we
are eager to see what the future will bring.

In closing, I’d like to again emphasize that this decision was based on
careful investigation of a mass of shifting facts and information, and
was only designed to try to help the Transformus Board Of Directors and
all of you move towards building a strong community and producing an
event supporting the values of that community. We do not believe anyone
should pull out of their participation or stop working on or planning to
attend Transformus 2008 solely because of this decision on the behalf of
the Regional Network’s official event requirements. Indeed, the primary
purpose in building the Regional Network has been to facilitate a
connection amongst all of us, and we are in no way trying to negate the
importance of Transformus and its participants or its organizers as
members of the Burning Man community.

As such, we hope that it is understood by all that the Burning Man
Project will remain available to your community for questions, comments,
or support as we can offer it (remember this is a particularly busy time
for our production staff as we near the creation of Black Rock City),
and that we do believe that Transformus will find its way to the future
Self reflection and self improvement are values that can never been
underestimated in helping manifest change.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us
directly via: regionals@burningman.com

Transformus No Longer A Regional Burn!!!!

Dear Mysterians,

It is with great sadness and discomfort that I announce Transformus is no longer an official Burning Man Regional Event. The Transformus Board of Directors received an e-mail from Andi Grace of Burning Man last night stating that there had been complaints made by the community. The decision to change Transformus' s status as an official burn was based on the BOD's lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency. An official statement will be released from Burning Man soon entailing all of the details in depth and their reasoning. It will also lay out the process necessary to regain or retain our status as a sanctioned Regional Burn.

The Transformus BOD would like to let everyone know that at no point in time did we mean for any of this to happen. We did our best to make sense of the madness that has occurred this year leading up to Transformus 2008. We apologize to the community for our break down in communication and our botched ticketing system. We are just a group of normal people, who tried to the best of our abilities to bring you a successful event. We are only human and the lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency was never, at any point in time, meaningfully sought out.

As many of you know, several members of the Transformus BOD have resigned. We thank them for their time, energy and devotion to this event. However, moving forward, there will be a lot of changes that will take place after Transformus 2008, and we are looking to this community to foster and implement those changes. The BOD opens the gates to the community as to where the future lies in running this event after Transformus 2008. For those of you who have wanted answers, decisions, and change, I ask you to step up to the challenge of making Transformus the way the community wants it to evolve. There are still just a few BOD members, including myself, that will help facilitate the means to making the situation at hand better after the event. Until that day and time, I respectfully and earnestly ask all of you to bring positivity and not negativity to our community.

Finally, for all of those in the community who wanted action and change, here is your opportunity to do something. The event is less than a month out ,and we can come out of the darkness and produce a great event that is fun, meaningful, transformative. ..not just a party in the woods. To all of you who are still coming and making it to Transformus 2008, we want to personally thank you for believing in the magical place known as Mysteria. Despite all the drama, anger, and confusion, we will rise to make Transformus 2008, the best one to date.

Positively Yours,

DTR

Blitz: Kamp Krieg fundraiser July 3-6

Blitz – the benefit party weekend for Kamp Krieg

Blitz is a camping holiday weekend celebration being held on 10 acres of woodlands near Siler City, NC July 3-6. We're bringing the fire, debauchery, food, thumpa-thumpa, trampolines, boffer swords, and more. It's all burner tested, burner approved. Our Grill Master will be preparing tasty foods for your enjoyment, in both carnivorous and hippie varieties. Our party veterans will ensure you remain properly "hydrated" at all times. All proceeds contribute directly to your enjoyment of Kamp Krieg at numerous regional burns.

We know you're gonna have as much fun coming as we will putting it on, but don't forget the important things: Costumes, Art, Blinkies, Musical Instruments, Fire Toys, and anything else you need to get your creative spirit fired up.

This is a primitive camping LNT event . Unless you bring your mama, YOU are responsible for cleaning up after yourself, including removing your trash from the site. There is no car camping, but vehicles will be parked inside Gate.

All attendees must be 18+: a valid photo ID must be presented at Gate. NO EXCEPTIONS. Only ticket holders with a valid photo ID will be granted entrance to Blitz. You will receive directions to the site and specific details about this unforgettable event. Due to space limitations, Blitz is capped at 200 people, so tickets are very likely to sell out. Please do not forward directions or details to non-ticket holders.

Tickets are available in Greensboro, NC by calling 336.669.6964 or online for $20 from now until July 1st. www.BrownPaperTickets.com/event/37256 After July 1, all remaining tickets will be available first-come, first-served at $30 each.

TubeStock 08 and Playa 101 - The Storm Shelter, Saturday June 7th

TubeStock 08 - 9PM, Saturday, June 7th, the Storm Shelter(8187 Sully Dr., Orlando, FL 32818)

Q: What do you get when you combine great people, music, and a love of gym socks?
A: TubeStock of course!

The Rules...there's always rules, but this one is simple... You costume must be made of tube socks!!

Yes, you may bling your tube socks and you may use whatever means necessary to combine or alter the tube socks into whatever type of body covering you desire...but ultimately, your costume must be made of tube socks!! If you dare to arrive without a costume made of tube socks, you will be forced to strip on the spot, given a single tube sock and a shot of your favorite elixer, and wished the best of luck.

Playa 101 - 4PM, Saturday, June 7th, the Storm Shelter(8187 Sully Dr., Orlando, FL 32818)

Going to the Playa for the first time this year?
Thinking of going to the Playa for the firt time?
Want to know how in the world you can get from Florida to BRC with a bike, costumes, and hundreds of pounds of water.
Enjoy spending time with your friends and grilling?
Feel like feeling up a bunch of lovely young virgins?
Well, Playa 101 is for you!!!

Prior to TubeStock 08, we'll be cooking out on the grill, sharing pics of previous trips to the playa, and sharing traveling and packing tips. I've also got a copy of Beyond Black Rock available for those that want to view it.

I'm going to be in Key Largo for a month starting mid-June... I really want to bring and use my fire hoop, but I am relatively new to burning, and therefore not really comfortable burning by myself or with only a safety who doesn't really know what they are doing.
Do any of you live in the area?

What fire or major entertainment events are still upcoming in Fl? Im already booked for FantasyFest, but would like to hit them all up.
If you are putting together a show, workshop or are part of the Fl entertainment community, please let me know. I am scouting events to perform at which would get free Monster Energy Drinks/Merch since they are my sponsors....so YOUR event would be sponsored if I am part of it. How hawt is that???

Roommate needed in Orlando

Pagan/Artist/Burner seeks roommate to rent room in 2,900 SF house with hardwood floors on 1.4 acres in Orlando (zip 32818), rent includes all utilities. The room for rent is on the opposite side of the house from the Master Suite, so you will have plenty of privacy and you will only have to share the bath with my brother. The room is approximately 12’ x 14’ and has 2 full size closets.

Amenities include driveway parking, wireless highspeed internet, cable, washer/dryer, reverse osmosis drinking water. The house is just minutes from the West Orange Bike Trail and is 20 minutes from Downtown Orlando and Universal Studios. There is no smoking in the house, but you may smoke on the deck. You may feel free to use any of the common areas of the house, including the family room & TV, deck, etc.

Pets: You must love pets. I have a couple of dogs that are indoors most of the timme. I will consider someone that has a dog, but it would depend on how well the animals get along. There is a chain link fence around the entire yard.

Roommate Requirements: You must have a stable income and transportation and be willing to go through a background check. I am looking for someone that is “tidy” and respectful…you don’t leave dirty dishes sitting around, you clean up after yourself, etc. As mentioned before, you must also love pets.

Rent is $600/month (all utilities included). Move in costs are 1 month’s rent deposit + pro-rated 1st month’s rent.

If you're interested give me a call at 407.694.7151

Looking for Pee-Wee

Anybody here acquainted with a certain phreek named Pee-Wee. Hails from Chi-town (south side, of course) but now resides in the Miami area.

Distinguishing marks include a recently-acquired far-away gaze that comes from hours of sitting idly by and watching everyone else slave away in the dusty heat of a Peruvian disaster zone. Probably still has concrete in his hair that I and others threw at him for being such a lazy phucker!!

Would appreciate the opportunity to throw a perfectly-crafted Mojito down the crack of his arse.

Thanx in advance!

There is so much to say about this past weekend, so look for a much longer post after the dust settles, but I didn't want to wait another moment to thank EVERYONE for participating and making the inaugural PreHeat the most magnificent weekend! Yes, I spent a lot of time on the planning and organzing and my weekend revolved around making sure everything executed smoothly, but NONE of it was WORK!!! It was all a complete pleasure to do because I knew I was creating magic for so many people. So I thank you for helping breath life into our little city.

Filled with gratitude and love for you all...

Humbly...

Storm

PS I would really like suggestions from those of you that were there as to what we should name our little city. Send in your suggestions and I'll post a poll on the website next month so we can vote.

PreHeat Work/Play next Weekend 4/12

Preparations go on and we reach ever closer to PreHeating to 420, so come out next Saturday to Maddox Ranch and help us get the site ready. Even if you can't make it to the event, this is a great chance to hang out with some of the most wonderful Burners around :)

We'll mainly be collecting fire wood and treating for fire ants. If you have any wood or pallets you'd like to donate for the burn this would be a great time to drop it off. If you have a chain saw you can bring or some sort of vehicle cable of transporting the fire wood to the burn areas please bring it.

I'd also like to be able to mark out the Theme Camp areas, so if anyone has any of those wood marker stakes they'd like to donate please let me know too.

Other than that bring workgloves, beverages, and snacks for yourself and to share if you like. I plan on getting there by 10:30 AM on Saturday. Maddox is located at 2505 W. Bella Vista St., Lakeland, FL 33810.

I have been contacted by Ilana, aka Madam Firefly, from a fire troupe out of California that would like to meet some other burners and/or fire peeps. She will be here from 3/28 to 4/1. I want to have a Poi in the Park on Saturday, 3/29 and fire on Clearwater Beach on Saturday night. Please let me know if any of you are interested in either or both! Maybe we can have a small party on Friday or Sunday night or something if someone wants to put one together or offer up their place. We may offer our place up for the party, we have done fire there, so we have the neighbors broken in already but not a whole lot of parking. Let me know what you think! Message me if you need my number.
Big hugs!

Paralounge Drum Gathering
May 2,4 2008
River Rendezvous in Mayo Florida
Spend a weekend on the Suwannee River with drum circle enthusiest from around the world. Last November Riz and his team of Fire Performers set the place ablaze! The drum circle community kissed the fire community! It was awesome! This May we have some really special perfromances lines up. No we don't have fire performers, but we will have some great stuff. The fire performances set off an abounding interest in both communities. Drummers are looking at buying poi and other fire equipment, and the fire performers were looking at drums to buy. How cool is that? So we are getting a lot of feed back from the fire community and there interest in what is happening at the Paralounge. We welcome the fire community to our drum circle. SAFETY FIRST! As long as you show safety precautions and good sense, we will stare and cheer and have a great time. The first hint of unsafe conditions, and we put em' out and limit the fire to the drum circle.
Go check out what's going on at www.paralounge.net
It's going to be a great time. Drums, dancing, singing, and fire!
Safe journeys,
Clint

Florida PreHeat April 18 - 20, Lakeland, FL - Tier 2 Invites Available Until 3/24

Florida PreHeat April 18 - 20, Lakeland, FL
www.floridapreheat.com

Just a friendly reminder that Tier 2 Invites are only available till 3/24. For more information and the link to get your invites please visit http://www.floridapreheat.com/tickets.htm

What is PreHeat?

PreHeat is place where Burners from various cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies gather to participate in a temporary community filled with interactive art, music, and radical self expression. It is a place that exists only because those that attend choose to create it and is a direct expression of their collective and diverse visions. Planned as an official Regional Burn, the 10 Principles of Burning Man act as the cornerstone of PreHeat, but our expression of those principles extends far beyond the Playa.
There is no definition for Participation, rather it is up to each individual to determine its meaning to him and to appreciate the interpretations of others. Some choose to gift handmade trinkets, some gift their art or talent, and some their time; whatever form it takes the only common thread is that it is about sharing of yourself with your community and having the freedom to do so in whatever way you are comfortable.
Community, participation, self-expression, self-reliance, and generosity of heart are the lifeblood of the Burning Man community. Welcome to PreHeat!

See you in April!!

SEX TOYS

Hey there every one well I'm sure the title got your attention. So I work at a toy store of the adult persuasion and I figured you know what would be cool? A huge sex toy show at Transformus. Now I, being a knowledgeable chap in the adult toy industry, know a bit about these things and figured I'd start amassing a horde of toys and have a sex toy party (kinda like a tuperware party). Now it'll be educational as well as fun (cough, cough) of course this all depends on what kinda response I get on here because these things aren't exactly cheap, if I have a lot of people wanting to see and get items which I plan on gifting at the end of the show I just wanna get a good guess. let me know thanks

Lets Unite/Synchronize To Anchor Pillars of Light

Hello beautiful souls,.Namaste,,I envite everyone here to anchor a pillar of light with me on feburary 24th,.at 8:08pm (feb2+2+4=8). I beleif in the power of the collective. If we all meditate at the same time, anchor ourselves in the Earths Starry Core and beam ourselfs to the highest dimensions we can reach with the help of Ets, Archangels and Ascended Masters, we can have a significantly beneficial impact on the Energy Grid of Mother Earth and the Collective Human Consciousness. There are many ways to climb up to through the dimensions, I find the merkaba the most effective but if you simply connect to your I AM Presence (in your chest), ground yourself, invoke your guides, angels, et's of light and the ascended masters plane, then visualize a little version of you standing in your pineal galnd on a glowing lotus, connect a string from the top of your head your head all the way up to the Infinite source of All that Is and vizualize yourself on the lotus shooting up the string as high as you can and into the Great Galactic Sun, bathe in the Awesome Light for a few minutes and then bring it down with you all the way to the Earths core,, this will anchor a massive pillar of light,, vizualize it comming down and sinking deep into the earht,, shinny, pearly and radiant white. You can also speak to the dimensions themself and ask them to anchor into our planet and help heal and raise our frequencies,., they cannot help with out our asking (law of free will).. Please tell your friends,, the more te better,,, ideally this is done in a clean sacred place with a group of people holding hands in a cirlce,, Om'ing together helps to tune in with each other,.,but this can be done anywhere and by yourself,., please reply if you intend on participating, thank you all very much,., Love and Bliss., AUM.

Flipside Tickets On Sale Jan 7

Ok Kids, are you ready?

Here is your next Official Ticket Announcement, with your host Starr.
Happy New Year from your Ticket Team!!

As the cold wind whips you around, don’t forget that nice little hometown of yours, waiting around the bend of Spring. Yes Flipside, the magical place we all know and love is being born in the minds and hands of so many right now. Want to know how to be one of the lucky ones to experience this place?
Read on, follow directions (this is key) and you will be rewarded:

Tickets for Flipside 2008: Dr. Tiki’s Combustible Medicine Show go on sale starting Jan 7 thru Jan 11, 2008 .

All tickets for Flipside 2008 will be sold via Mail Order (snake oil not included).

The Official Flipside Ticket Order Form is available to fill out and print starting on January 2. (Hey that's TODAY!!) There are two steps to make it to the glorious land of Flipside . Just two little steps.

First, you must access the form itself, fill out your information, and submit electronically so we have all of your details. The form can be found here: www.burningflipside.com/common...est.php
but don't forget to follow through onto the next step!

Second you must print the form and send it in the mail with a post mark between Monday Jan 7 and Friday Jan 11 (7-11, get it? That’s easy to remember!). Simple, easy and fun! (well, it’s your ticket to fun anyway).

***If you do not follow through on step two and send us the form with your payment, you will not be guaranteed a ticket to the most glorious medicine show to ever be born (snake oil not included)***

Two adult tickets per order. One order per person.

Tickets will cost $70 each for adult tickets age 13 and up and $35 for kids 7-12 (Kids 0-6 are free). Payment is accepted by Money Order only! If you send any other form of payment, your request will be sent back unfilled. Make sure you save your money order receipts, if your order is not filled you may need that to turn your money order back into real dollars.

Note: there is a new section on the ticket form this year to give an optional donation to Art Garden, a local non-profit art org born out of the Flipside community. Look for an announcement from AG with details.

Make your Money orders payable to:
Austin Artistic Reconstruction

Send your money order and completed ticket order form to:
Austin Artistic Reconstruction
PO Box 9987
Austin , TX 78766

Please make sure you print your name and return address legibly on your envelope!

The fine print:

The number of tickets that will be sold for 2008's event will be 2345.

Once all ticket orders have arrived, the LLC and the Ticket Staff will count up the completed orders received during the postmark period (the significant date is the date of your post mark, NOT the date we receive it).

If the number of completed orders received is less than 2345, then ALL completed orders will be filled. If the number is grreater than 2345, we will fill the orders for Critical Volunteers first. Critical Volunteers are those necessary to ensure the safety and intrastructure needs of all participants are met.

All completed orders with post mark dates within the Jan 7 - 11 window are considered equal.

Children with legal guardians:
6 and under are FREE
7-12 are $35
13 and older are $70 (and still require a legal guardian)

NO PETS allowed at the event.

Looking for opinions, suggestions or advice on selling at a Flea Market

It seems clubs in Florida don’t allow vendors to set up a booth and Raves and Burner type events are not as plentiful as they are in Los Angeles. I was thinking of selling, Burner type clothing, Rave / Club apparel and reconstructed fashions at a Flea Market.

I found a couple and wanted to see what some people think of them or if anyone can suggest one.

I'm down until February helping out my grandmother; she had a surgery on her lower back.

I've actually been in town for about 2 weeks, but I just got internet here this past week, and my g-ma's doing much better now!

I've also been fasting for the past couple of weeks. My last day of the Master Cleanser is tomorrow--YAY! 14 days. oh yeah.

Anywhooo-- just wondering if there's any burners down here in MB to hang out with sometime; now that my grandmother is doing much better, I could probably even go out an evening. That would be sweet. Dancing is fun! Though I don't know about the SoBe crowd--it's just so hard to blend here with green hair! Not that blending is my thing. Though it's nice to hang out someplace where I don't get stared at! (Austin is so relaxed!)

I brought some practice poi with me; would be sweet to meet some other firedancers while I'm down, maybe play a bit.

My grandma lives in a condo-The Riviera- at Collins and 24th. So if you're close by, please drop me a line! Thanks!

Light, Love, and many Blessings,

Don't worry not moving to FL :P Would love to hear about the things I shouldn’t miss and go to some local events with good vibes and fire entertainment.

Hello kindred spirits! My boyfriend and I are active in the New England/New York fire/party/pagan/artists communities and are considering a move to the Tampa area because the cost of living in Massachusetts is insane! Just wondering jobs (I am a massage therapist and he is a professional chef), about your community, and what events you have going on through out the year. I spent many summers around Orlando because my Dad lived there when I was growing up but I've only been to Tampa about 4 times. Last year was the last time and I feel drawn to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. Thanks so much for your help!

In short shes like most of the rest of us who are professional dancers UN INSURED. I am uttlery amazed and how the East has came togehter to help her.
Sadly Johanna now faces 6 months of Kemo with a price tag of about 20 grand. Our area is becoming tapped out on fundrasiers to help her..

I want to hold the Mack daddy fund rasier for her.

We are planning the "Hafla From Hell" and hoping for a raffle to match.

Please help get the word out to vendors to donate something for this raffle.

We need almost 20 grand.and any little bit at this point helps.

FreeFall festival NEWS

To all who are planning to attend FreeFall this weekend...

WE HAVE A PROBLEM. WE REPEAT, WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

The water pump to the festival site is down. We are working hard to repair this. Still, anyone attending should plan to bring water for themselves for the weekend, as the likelihood is that this situation won't be fixed by then.

Also, anyone who has not received their invitations in email, please let us know this at freefallticketcritter@yahoo.com, or email me at merritt137@yahoo.com. We seem to be having some trouble with invitations being rejected as Spam.
Anarchist Infoshop @ The Blueberry Patch

The Nutshell Collective is bringing books, pamphlets and magazines to the Blueberry Patch on the 1st, 7th, 11th and 22nd, from 8pm - 11. Topics include DIY guides, school liberation, feminism, sustainability, direct action, freedom, anti-capitalism, philosophy and much more. Please come by and have a read and take some home. We will soon have shirts, posters and whatnot. We are in the tent by Blueberry Hill, behind the 77 sign... ask someone if you can't find it. Don't forget to bring a donation for the patch, $5 is asked but $3 is reasonable too.

4923 20th Ave S
Gulfport, FL 33707
http://blueberrypatch.org/

The patch is a place in this world where it is entirely possible to escape the everyday rigors of life and retreat into a world of your own fantasy. A spot where you are not only allowed to create nearly anything your mind can conceive, but actively encouraged to bring your imagination to life in a three dimensional form. Bands, jams and open mic parties every 1st, 7th, 11th and 22nd at around 8pm, winding down with an Om circle at 11. Saturdays and Sundays are volunteer days, when creation really takes place.

Burning Brother was great!

See you at the patch!

FreeFall Festival @ Serendipity September 28-30th

As many of you know, Serendipity has been the site of the EleMent and Thesmophoria Burns in SC the last few years.

There has been a TON of community interest and help invested to make all of these events special, memorable and magical.

This fall, to thank you all for the good work and good fun that's been generated, we will be sponsoring a FREE festival here, no ticket fee required! We don't want your money, we just want YOU!

Although this will not be an "official burn", we intend to embody the principles of the burn community, with one key difference, which is that artists and vendors will have an area where they may provide services to the community. This doesn't make the situation commercial, it makes it supportive of those folks who are the backbone of alternative communities.

The dates for this will be September 28-30th.

We will be setting up a webpage this week with information, and where you can make reservations to come to this event. Although it's free, you'll need to reserve a spot in advance, since attendance will be limited to 200.

Meanwhile, you can contact us at my personal email about this event, merritt137@yahoo.com

We're looking forward to showing y'all how much we can do with how little here in the SC region...after all, that's what being Southern is all about! Woohoo! PJ! Barbeekyew!

Psy Parties/Gatherings in St. Pete/Tampa??? HELP!

Is there anyone interested in helping me set up some psytrance/dark psy house parties and undergrounds in the St. Pete or Tampa area?

I really want to do a whole Tribe of Fire scene with the Man and nature and chaos as the center of the whole vibe. I am really looking for someone who groooves off the dark and heavy night music, or can get down with it for at least the last half of the party.

I really prefer to do it in St. Pete because I don't have a car and can't drive due to a seizure disorder.

I have a computer with everything it's possible to have for software and also some great hardware interfaces. I also have a built in Roland 24 and about $15,000 in additional studio grade software-hardware packages built in to my peripherals box on the computer.

I need someone with a good hardware mixing board and some speakers and PA stuff to help me get this going. I have a bit of lights and stuff, but that is also needed for the true experience.

Up until last month I had over 300,000 worth of live and studio gear, but some of the little techno tweakers decided they needed it more than I did.

As a result of this, I have plenty of talent (uh, well, so I'm told-hehehe) and a great mixing setup and great collection of diverse psy and night music, but no way to get it going for a party.

I'll spin at anyone's house or party for free to get this scene jump started. I mainly focus on dark and extreme edge night psy, but I can play in every psy style that people might desire.

I prefer to play more hardcore music, and not much proggy stuff, but it's not a problem to do that as long as people will stay around for the dark and evil sets to come down.

my e-mail is coalitionforfreethoughtinmedia@yahoo.com.

I also work as the booking rep and promo manager for Black Magik Records, so there is a great label to back me up and support the scene .

Anyone that wants to hear my mixes can find them on my Tribe blog, or here-

Headed down Orlando way...

Howdy y'all!

I'm Linda Loca and I hail from Chicago. I'm going to be headed down to Orlando, Leesburg to be exact, on June 19th and I'm most likely staying a month... it's still a little up in the air. My mom who is 79, is in the hospital. She was just recovering from hip replacement surgery and then fell again and broke her femur and just went through having a rod with pins inserted into her leg - if you want to read about the whole saga, you can check out my latest blog: http://people.tribe.net/lalindaloca/blog/14018fc4-caf5-4d34-b7f8-b0169ff1cdb8

Anyhooo... this is just a little note to say hello and introduce myself, see who's out there and what's happening in and around the Orlando area. Anything fun happening on the 4th of July? (one of my favorite holidays cuz I can blow stuff up and set stuff on fire... more than usual :))

Hope to meet some fun people while I'm down there... please save me from having to go to a local bar in Leesburg with a bartender who has missing teeth and a mullet, wearing a Union Jack t-shirt!!!

Cheers!

Happy Hump Day all you lovely people!

This is your friendly reminder that I will be hosting movie night this Friday at the Storm Shelter. I’ve got a brand new big screen TV and if I get ambitious I might even get the surround sound hooked up before Friday. We’ll put the movie on around 8PM. I’ll provide popcorn and soda but if you want anything fancier make sure you bring enough to share ;0)

Call or email me for directions if you haven't been to the Storm Shelter before.

Greetings Mysterians,

If you can make it to Deerfields next weekend, May 5th and 6th, we
could use your help at the last W/P Weekend before the event in July.
We will be putting gravel at key pedestrian and vehicle spots that have
historically been "mudpits" after the deluge! There is still wood to
cut and stockpile, etc.......basically we will again be preparing for
the event, and making improvements to the land. To volunteer and to
coordinate with DPW, or if you have any more questions, contact tunna
at jasonasanders@ yahoo.com or Gabe at gabesburnt@hotmail. com Bring
gloves, tools (especially gravel shovels and chainsaws), toys, pois,
and bring a covered dish for a community meal on Saturday evening!!!
Bring LOTS of WATER!!!
Effigy Submission Deadline is Friday!!!!!!

Greetings Mysterians,

Effigy Design Request Deadline is THIS Friday, May 4th at 12:00:01 AM

There are two requests that we have for submissions:
Please include some element of bamboo in your design. We are not
expecting another Bamboozler, however we would like to honor the
Bamboozler design with the inclusion of bamboo.
The budget has already been set for the effigy, so we ask that you
either present a design that can be executed for $500 or less, or
have some means of raising the additional funds. There has been talk
of an additional $400 for the effigy budget being gifted by the Dirty
Southern Burners from a fundraiser they did in Charlotte, some months
back.

Effigy design submissions should include:

1. Your name and contact information: This submission is for
something that you are building. If there are others helping you, let
us know.

2. Your prior experience at with burnable art, including the
experience of anyone working with you. Have you built large scale
burnable art at Burning Man or another regional burn, or another
event?

3. Budget: As itemized and realistic as you can do. Include
materials, (wood, fasteners, ALL materials you will need needs to be
listed in here). Due to the nature of the request, we must limit the
effigy budget to $500 that was allotted.

4. Plan for building: Schedule loosely and realistically, estimating
how long it will take to build the piece. Will you be building it
on-site or will you plan to build in advance and bring completed?

5. Safety plan: Are there dangerous places/things involved in this
thing? How will you keep people from dying on/around it? How will you
prevent it from killing people?

6. Burn plan: How much perimeter will you need to burn safely? What
accelerants (if any)? What type of embers will this thing throw?

7. Cleanup plan: What is required to get the burn pad cleared after
the burn?

8. Transportation plan: Will it fit in a box truck? Will the pieces
be fragile? How will you move the structure and all the tools you
will need? What comes home, and in what? What schedule is needed for
all of this?

9. Inspiration: Why should this get built? How does this speak to the
participants?
&l
