This was my second burn and once again I was blown away! Everyone I met was so nice and the music was bangin! Unfortunately I lost my digital camera Friday night and was unable to take home any photos whatsoever. So if anyone has any pics, put them up! Letting me know you found a silver panasonic camera would also be great! Lets see em!

hey all. Been to the burn a few years now, just landed in Key West.

I'm TommyB. My girlfriend Cammie and I are traveling and performing fire shows for a living. We're looking to hook up with other burners and fire peeps.

In Arizona, we had a pretty active community (Decompression, our regional event was SWEET this year).

Is there much going on here?

Thanks all.

AfterBurn Tier 2 Sales End 9/30

Get’em while they’re cheap-er! Tier 2 sales end Tuesday 9/30.

www.floridaAfterBurn.net/tickets.htm

What is AfterBurn?

For many it is about sharing ourselves and who we are: our inherent arts, gifts, and talents. It is about celebrating the moment together. It is about not only being free to be ourselves, but also being able to bring out the best in each other. It is about the overwhelming creativity and inspiration, the smiles and hugs, the crazy art, the antics, and the fire. Community, participation, self-expression, self-reliance; these tenets are also lifeblood of the Burning Man community. Thus, as a guide for your journey we have included a link to the 10 Principles from the Burning Man website that we believe are also integral to the AfterBurn experience even though AfterBurn is not an official regional burn. Read them, and reflect on how they operate in your own life.

With AfterBurn we will create our own experimental community, burn our own effigy, and PARTICIPATE in our own back yard! There are no rules about how one must behave or express oneself at this event (save the rules that serve to protect the health, safety, and the community at large). Rather, it is up to each participant to decide what and how they will contribute to our community. Whether you are new to the Burner experience or are a seasoned veteran, you are encouraged to reach into and connect with yourself to find your niche in our community. Participate! The giving of yourself is the greatest gift you can give to your community, and is imperative to the survival of this unique experiment.

AfterBurn is also an official fundraiser for Burnt Oranges Inc. All funds raised from AfterBurn will go directly toward funding the art grants and operations of Burnt Oranges, including our annual Interactive Art Grant.
AfterBurn 2009 is scheduled for November 6 - 8, 2009.

If you have any further questions you can send them to info@burntoranges.org

Update on Florida Afterburn

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say sorry about the link. Our new link is floridaafterburn.info/ Sorry it took so long to update but we were all at the Big burn. As I have said before we are well on our way to our next AfterBurn and we need your help! I hope everyone has recouped from the Big Burn and is ready to start gearing up for our AfterBurn!! I know I am! :)

Our PreHeat Art grant winner was a great success at the Big Burn, picture to come soon. We want you to have the same success so don't be shy, we are taking Art grant submissions till September 18th that does give you much time!! Hurry!!

Art Grants

A percentage of the profits are being set aside for art grants to those submitting the following information. Please complete and return the Art Grant Application by September 18th to art@burntoranges.org <mailto:art@burntoranges.org>. Art Grants recipients will be announced by October 30th. To register for an art grant go to www.floridaafterburn.com/camps.htm and follow the links.

We need art submissions for this year's ticket design. So if you think you have a great design or you know someone who thinks they have a design that would look great on this years ticket please submit it to Storm at pwrstrm@gmail.com We can't send out tickets till we have them printed and we can't have them printed till we have a winning design, so lets get some designs submitted. :)

Theme camp registration is also open! Theme Camps are interactive, living art projects where a group of people collaborate to gift experiences, performances, services, resources, or anything else they can conceive. They embody gifting and interactive art, two of the key Burning Man experiences. The only boundaries of a Theme Camp are your imagination and desire. Theme Camps have gifted food, libations, music, and massage, while others have simply created welcoming spaces for people to gather, interact, or even grab a much needed nap. But a Theme Camp does not have to be limited to the borders of its camping area, a Theme Camp can be a group of performers that roam the event together giving rogue performances or evening coaxing participants back to their camp. If you are inspired to invite people into your space, create an interactive environment, or offer special services and would like to be mentioned on this website and have space reserved in our Theme Camp area, you can register your theme camp by contacting themecamps@burntoranges.org <mailto:themecamps@burntoranges.org>.

Art

Artists and performers of all types are welcome and encouraged to participate. AfterBurn is a great place for experimentation since your audience is comprised of creative people who appreciate the creative effort as much as, and sometimes more than, the finished product.

If you are planning on bringing large scale art please register in advance so we can set aside space. To register art go to www.floridaafterburn.com/camps.htm and follow the link.

Volunteering

Confused? Lost? Don't know exactly what these freaks are up to? VOLUNTEER! It's the easiest way to get involved with things and meet people. And it's a ton of fun! Our event is a place where work and play are kinda the same thing, so jump in with both feet and have a blast!

We need volunteers before, during, and after the event. Volunteers are needed to get the site ready, keep the event running, and clean the site up. So whatever your availability and whatever your contribution, we need you!

1. Pre-event organization & Work weekends
2. Event Positions include Greeters, AfterBurn Medical Posse (AMPs), & AfterBurn Safety Squadron (ASS) Team.
3.Post-event Leave No Trace.

During Event Volunteering Opportunities

Gate Greeters – Volunteer greeters welcome other participants to AfterBurn and make sure they are prepared for the event. It's usually a big party at the greeter station. Read the Greeter Training Guide and Greeter Cheat Sheet to get an idea of what is involved.

AfterBurn Safety Squadron (ASS) Team – Have you kissed an ASS today? Our ASS team is dedicated to the overall safety of the land and participants. Basically the ASS Team will:

* Be responsible for being first responders to any conflicts or emergencies. So, if you've attended an event like ours before, or are familiar with what BRC Rangers do, jump onboard our ASS Team.
* Make sure everyone at the event has on a wrist band.

The ASS Team is one of the most important aspects of the event, and offer a great sense of reward for your time. If you have questions about the ASS Team, what they do, or want to volunteer to be an ASS Team member, contact Mayhem & Sassy: tampamayhem@yahoo.com <mailto:tampamayhem@yahoo.com>.

AfterBurn Medical Posse (AMP) – We are looking for EMTs, nurses, doctors, or First Aid certified individuals to volunteer as an AMP. As first responders at our event you will treat minor injuries and, if necessary, work with our ASS Team to utilize the 911 system to evacuate a participant with a potentially life-threatening injury.

Guardians of the Loo (GLOO) & Earth Guardians - Two of our more sacred volunteer groups. These volunteers protect both the life of the event and the planet by making sure the grounds and the potties are MOOP free. Want to help AfterBurn be a sustainable event? Be a GLOO or Earth Guardian and help spread the word about Leave No Trace (LNT) practices to all the lovely participants at AfterBurn. This is an easy task. All you need to do is take a garbage bag and walk the event site, picking up Matter Out Of Place (MOOP) as you see it and remind participants to do the same! You also get to meet fabulous people and look at all the great stuff out there! For extra fun, get a friend to join you!

Parking Guides & Camp Placers – These volunteers are integral to the community planning of AfterBurn. They will liaison with Greeters to direct our AfterBurner participants to their camping spot or theme camp, and show them where to park their cars for the duration of the event.

Hello Everyone,

It is that time of year again! Florida AfterBurn tickets are on sale again. http://www.floridaafterburn.com/tickets.htm Grab yer theme camp, art, costumes, gifts, kitchen sink and get yer giddy-up on! It's time for: Florida AfterBurn NOVEMBER 6 - 8, 2009 at Maddox Ranch, in Lake land Florida!!!

We are asking for submissions for this years tickets designs as well, so if you or someone you know thinks that you have the perfect design for this years tickets please submit your designs to Storm at pwrstrm@gmail.com <mailto:pwrstrm@gmail.com>.

To register art go to http://www.floridaafterburn.com/camps.htm and follow the link.

Art Grants

A percentage of the profits are being set aside for art grants to those submitting the following information. Please complete and return the Art Grant Application by September 18th to art@burntoranges.org <mailto:art@burntoranges.org>. Art Grants recipients will be announced by October 30th. To register for an art grant go to http://www.floridaafterburn.com/camps.htm and follow the links.

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION IS NOT OPEN YET, BUT WILL BE SOON!!

Parking Guides & Camp Placers – These volunteers are integral to the community planning of AfterBurn. They will liaison with Greeters to direct our AfterBurner participants to their camping spot or theme camp, and show them where to park their cars for the duration of the event.

I'm looking for a good local place to pick up some goggles for Burning Man, preferably with interchangeable clear/tinted lenses but I don't have much to spend. I have seen suggestions of army surplus stores but don't know of any around me. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

roommate needed in orlando

once again, i need a roommate...

Storm
407.694.7151

------------

Seeking a roommate to rent room in 2,900 SF house with hardwood floors on 1.4 acres in Orlando (zip 32818), rent includes all utilities. The room for rent is on the opposite side of the house from the Master Suite, so you will have plenty of privacy and you will only have to share the bath with my brother. The room is approximately 12’ x 14’ and has 2 full size closets.

Amenities include driveway parking, wireless highspeed internet, cable, washer/dryer, reverse osmosis drinking water. The house is just minutes from the West Orange Bike Trail and is 20 minutes from Downtown Orlando and Universal Studios. There is no smoking in the house, but you may smoke on the deck. You may feel free to use any of the common areas of the house, including the family room & TV, deck, etc.

Pets: You must love pets. I have a couple of dogs that are indoors most of the time. I will consider someone that has a dog, but it would depend on how well the animals get along. There is a chain link fence around the entire yard.

Roommate Requirements: You must have a stable income and transportation and be willing to go through a background check. I am looking for someone that is “tidy” and respectful…you don’t leave dirty dishes sitting around, you clean up after yourself, etc. As mentioned before, you must also love pets.

Rent is $600/month (all utilities included). Move in costs are 1 month’s rent deposit + pro-rated 1st month’s rent.

I was wonderin' if any of you fine folks were living in the Jacksonville area. I would love to get together when I head back home this summer and hang out. Burners are too damn cool to only chill with twice a year.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you folks,
Peace,

BIOGRAPHY
For almost a decade, the insightful lens of Pixie has captured the essence of the performer and created some of the defining images of the lucid dreamer in the modern world.

She has toured with numerous bands documenting life on stage and off, but it is in the studio where the veil between model and photographer dissipates. Her inner dialogue as a photographer is a dance between the character of her subject and her perception of their desire.

Pixie holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and her work has been featured worldwide in publications including Variety, Pulp Magazine, Playgirl, Metal Edge, Complete Woman, Skin & Ink, Modern Drummer, Revolver and Rolling Stone.

Burnt Oranges Interactive Art Grant

PURPOSE
Burnt Oranges wishes to support the creative work of interactive artists. This grant is meant to encourage interactive artists to create inventive and innovative work and to provide the support necessary to expand their creative process. By facilitating the professional and creative goals of interactive artists, Burnt Oranges cultivates a community in which the artistic voice contributes to both the quality of life and a creative economy. The artist must provide a return to the community, by means of temporary exhibit, performance, or other community participation as defined in the Grant Agreement.

ELIGIBILITY
The Interactive Art Grant is open to anyone showing serious intent and working to produce original material.
You are not eligible to apply if:
• You have received an Interactive Art Grant within the last two years.
• You are a past Interactive Art Grant recipient and have not submitted a grant summary letter as specified in your Grant Agreement.
• You are a Burnt Oranges staff or board member.

PROCESS
The Interactive Art Grant will be awarded on the basis of the grant proposal. Burnt Oranges will review the proposals and notify applicants of their decision by mail within forty-five (45) days of the application deadline. The grant finalist(s) is subject to a final evaluation before funds are granted. The artist must commit to a project deadline and enter into a contract with Burnt Oranges. The project must be designed to be completed and presented within twelve (12) months from the deadline date.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
Interactivity - How interactive is the project? In what ways does it invite the public to touch it, move it, smell it, or see it? How much does it depend on such public involvement for the artistic vision to be realized?
Originality - How original is the idea, medium, design, etc.?
Financial Need - How much is the artist/performer depending on this grant? Are there any other funding options available? Is the artist/performer making a good faith effort to obtain every available funding option?
Safety/Responsibility - Does the project pose an undue safety risk to the public? If so, are there measures proscribed for reducing any risk to reasonable levels? Is the project socially responsible? Will it help create a positive social image for interactive art and Burnt Oranges?
Community Support/Involvement - Is there community support or involvement from the interactive art community with the project? Have they included reference letters or testimonials from the interactive art community? Is this a project the interactive art community wants to fund?

TAXABILITY OF GRANTS
According to the Internal Revenue Service, some grants may be excluded from taxation under certain circumstances. Burnt Oranges encourages you to contact your CPA or local IRS office for detailed information after the award of your grant.
GRANTEE REQUIREMENTS
If you receive an Interactive Art Grant you will be required to comply with the terms of a grant agreement contract, which include:
• At the conclusion of the grant period you must provide a brief, written report summarizing how you used the project funds.
• You must give credit to Burnt Oranges in all promotional materials pertaining to work produced with support of the Interactive Art Grant. A statement such as, "This program is supported in part by a grant from Burnt Oranges Inc.," must be part of credits, publicity, and promotions.
• You must grant Burnt Oranges the full and free right and permission to film/videotape/photograph all work resulting from this Interactive Art Grant and, within their absolute discretion, utilize it in any and all fashion they deem appropriate for the purposes of promoting Burnt Oranges Inc.
APPEALS PROCESS
Burnt Oranges maintains an appeals process to ensure that funding decisions are made on a fair basis. The basis on which you may appeal are:
• The review of the application was based on criteria other than those appearing in Burnt Oranges’ guidelines.
• The final decision was unduly influenced by a Committee member with undisclosed conflicts of interest.
• Required application information submitted by the appropriate deadline was withheld from the Committee.
Dissatisfaction with the funding decision is not justification for an appeal. The introduction of new information not submitted with the original application cannot be used to justify an appeal. You must initiate a formal appeal, in writing, within 30 calendar days of the date of the award-notification letter of the Committee’s decision.
HOW TO APPLY
• Fill out and return the Art Grant Application. Make sure you clearly and thoroughly describe the project and explain how it is interactive with the public.
• Clearly define your own monetary investment in the project. List in detail any cost of materials or aids required for the completion of the project.
• State the time frame of the project, giving a definite date of completion.
• Give a history of your ability to professionally manage the project (stating previous commitments, grants, etc.)
• Submit supportive materials with the application.
• Submit a typed proposal. If you are submitting by mail you must submit 5 copies of your application and supporting documents.
• Submit your proposal via email or mail.

As you know PreHeat is two weeks and five days away. We are in serious need for fire volunteers. You don't need to be experienced you just need to be some what sober and able to stand your ground with a huge fire at your back while keep people from getting too close. You should keep an eye out for people who look like they might be getting to fascinated with the fire and might do something stupid that might hurt themselves or anyone else. That being said I am asking everyone to keep an eye out around you make sure if you see someone who doesn't look like right that you talk to them. Make sure they are ok, able to keep themselves out of 'trouble." If you are not sure then please get a range/medic to come and look into the situation. It is ALL of our responsibility to keep everyone safe. If you see someone doing something that might get them hurt or someone else hurt, speak up. Don't be pushy, just express you concern in a caring manner. If you don't want to approach them then tell a ranger and let them handle it. There will be some new precautions taken during the effigy burn. We will have a perimeter set up with rope light around the effigy and everyone is expected to stay behind the rope lights till the fire safety crew tells you it is ok. This is for everyone safety! We want this event to be able to keep happening and growing so we need to make sure that we keep everyone safe!

If you are going to have fire in you camp you will need a fire extinguisher displayed front and center of you camp where everyone can find it if needed. If you see someone doing something that you wouldn't want a child to see, ie public sex acts of any kind please get a ranger don't handle it yourself. If you see something that you don't think is cool, you should get a ranger asap, they need to see it to handle it.
We/they are not there to police anyone just to keep the peace and make sure everyone is safe. They have been trained and will handle things with the utmost care and consideration. Don't consider it invading, policing, harsh-ing someone else burn, consider it keep everyone safe and keeping our ability to continue this event. We understand the ten principals, radical self reliance, but lets not forget...

Civic Responsibility
We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state and federal laws.

You see the line that says public welfare, that is what we are trying to do. We thank you for your help in keep this a safe and happy burn!!! we can't wait to see all your bright and shinny faces there!! This is going to be the best one yet, we have sold more tickets than were ever have so it is going to be exciting!! Happy Burn!!
BRC Ranger Training at PreHeat

Speaking of Rangers, I have been informed that if there are enough interested people, we may be able to have a trainer come out and hold an official session to prepare current and future Rangers for the playa.

Training neither obligates you to becoming a Ranger nor guarantees that you will pass the rigorous mentoring process. It is simply a first step toward an awesome volunteering opportunity.

More info on rangering can be found at <http://rangers.burningman.com/>. Please contact me off list <andymcd at yahoo dot com> if you are interested in attending a training session.

Thanks,
McDee
Sometime after 8pm

He's going to be DJing at the dropzone after we're done jumping and would love to have some people out playing with fire and having fun. It's a great big open space with plenty of room. Feel free to set up a tent for the evening....or to come and make a skydive with us during the day!

Yes, the rumors are true...that pesky little cherub is loose again. Come join me at the Storm Shelter (8187 Sully Dr., Orlando, FL 32818) on Friday, February 13th, to stop him before he creates more havock. Dress as an assasin, or if you're really brave, Cupid himself! Festivities start at 8PM.

Hugs,
Storm (feel free to call if you have questions, 407.694.7151)

DOGS: I have dogs and you are welcome to bring yours...BUT if you bring your dog you must bring a leash and be prepared to spend some time getting the dogs acclimated to one another.

Hey there! new to florida...calling all artists!

Hey, hey, hey!
I just moved out here from northern Cali and want to collaborate with Drummers, Dancers, Singers, Poets, Dij players, Fire spinners, ritualists, costuming freaks, stilt walkers, and night owls.

Has anyone out there been to an Alchemical Fire Circle? They happen all over, but I don't know if it's happened down here...yet!
The plan is to have one for the Spring Equinox.
It will be an alcohol-free, all-night, sacred fire circle with focused intention, rituals, theatre, fire-spinning, spoken word, and whatever else people want to bring it on with!

I am looking for land that would be appropriate for this kind of event:
remote location, lots of land, with cool, spiritually open owners. I want to make it as close to a 'free admission' as possible, so it will be just enough to cover the land rental, supplies, etc.
I just want us to get together and rage it!

So hit me back!
mwah,
navs

A friend of mine has a band, Fall on Purpose, and he wants to have lots of fire in his video. I'm pretty sure you wont get paid. I'm not expecting to. There isn't a date, yet, but if you're interested on any level I will contact you as soon as I know. Skill level isn't important. It will probably be in the St. Pete or Clearwater area. I just came back to the bay area so if anyone wants to play or teamwork I think we can make some cool acts and money

Santarchy in Orlando, Saturday December 6th

We're planning a Santarchy in Orlando for Saturday December 6th. If we rent a party bus the cost will probably be $50 - $75/person. If we can't get enough people to go in on the bus we'll just carpool and meet downtown. Please let me know if you'd like to attend and if you would be able to pitch in for the bus. For those of you that don't live in Orlando, there's lots of crash space at my house (the Storm Shelter) and there's plenty of camping room too.

PreHeat Tier 1 Invites now available

Howdy Campers!

Without further adieu, PreHeat is now taking donations for event invitations!

Tier 1 is limited to 250 invites or Midnight 12/30.

<http://www.floridapreheat.com/tickets.htm>

What is PreHeat?

PreHeat is place where Burners from various cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies gather to participate in a temporary community filled with interactive art, music, and radical self expression. It is a place that exists only because those that attend choose to create it and is a direct expression of their collective and diverse visions. PreHeat is an official Regional Burn and as such the 10 Principles of Burning Man act as the cornerstone of PreHeat, but our expression of those principles extends far beyond the Playa.

There is no definition for Participation, rather it is up to each individual to determine its meaning to him and to appreciate the interpretations of others. Some choose to gift handmade trinkets, some gift their art or talent, and some their time; whatever form it takes the only common thread is that it is about sharing of yourself with your community and having the freedom to do so in whatever way you are comfortable.

Community, participation, self-expression, self-reliance, and generosity of heart are the lifeblood of the Burning Man community. Welcome to PreHeat!

PreHeat 2009 is scheduled for April 17 - 19, 2009.

Hugs,
Storm

Santarchy / Santacon in Fort Lauderdale!!!

Hi all, I'm new to the burner community. I've never been to the events but my two lovely roommates have been involved for years an they said you'd be an awesome and receptive group to SANTACON!!!!!

I've always heard the saying "If you can't find what you want you have to create it.." so I am...

please check out this page and add it www.myspace.com/santaconfortlauderdale

I put it together but I would LOVE any help organizing (although anarchy is encouraged) and getting the word out to AS MANY people as possible...Here's our small group at the santacon that didn't "really" happen in Miami last year. Imagine this times 10 or even more!

There's a blog on the page with the tag to repost a flyer,(i'm new to tribe and don't know if or how i can post a picture here) as well as the rules again, and a link to some carols. Santa would love to for ALL of you to join in and get others to join in too! (it's big here but in most people's comments it automatically shrinks) so repost it EVERYWHERE!!! Feel free to make your own too. There is no boss of santacon!!! I'm just trying to get the ball rolling and get the word out!

----------------------
There are 2 great websites for Santacon resources www.santacon.com and www.santarchy.com That's where I got the rules!

RULES of Santacon (also in the blog on the profile)Santacon Fort Lauderdale

SANTACON RULES!!!:

Be Jolly.

Holiday apparel is mandatory. A Santa hat is not enough. Get a Santa suit. Buy a Santa suit. Make a Santa suit. Steal a Santa suit. If you don't have any money, be creative. If you don't have any creativity, slap yourself three times and ask your mom to help you. Glue cotton balls to red long johns. Make it purple. Make it pink. Make it plaid. Already have a Santa suit? Bring spare parts for the Santafication of strangers.

Twisting the holiday paradigm until it screams for mercy is fun! Getting arrested is not.

Santa Claus is friendly, respectful, and cooperative with cops, security guards, park rangers, secret service agents, and store owners and doesn't break any laws!!! "Disorderly Conduct" is not a city in China. Have your own special twisted fun, but DON'T FUCK IT UP FOR THE REST OF US. Our santas do not destroy property, steal merchandise, or do harm to others. The authorities and local businesses usually take Santa's antics in the loving holiday spirit Santa intends, so be nice to them.

Memorize these answers to important questions that may arise:

Who's in charge? "Santa"

What organization are you with? "Santa"

What are you protesting? "Shitty holiday parties"
(note: WE ARE NOT PROTESTERS!! We'd need a permit for that - and something serious to complain about...)

How did you get here? "A sleigh and eight tiny reindeer"

Where are you going next?
"I'm only allowed to tell you if you wear this hat and buy me a beer."

Any other question: "HO!" (best coupled with a slight pause and a stupid look on your face).

Santa's Reminders:
The "schedule" is open to liberal interpretation by Santa at all times. (it's Santarchy, not santa-barcrawl). There is no Santa in charge to call. If you can't show up for the start, get the cell number of someone who can help you catch up later.

Santa does not make children cry. Really - If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. (Feel free to abuse their parents.)

Santa dresses for all occasions. It's December. Smart Santas wear mutliple costume layers. Dress to maximize merriment whether singing christmas carols in the snow, or swinging from a stripper pole.

Santa doesn't whine! We will be outside much of the early day and covering a lot of ground on foot -- bring enough "snacks" to keep your pie-hole filled until we get indoors.

Bring gifts -- NAUGHTY gifts to give grown ups; NICE stuff to give kids. Throwing coal at the white house is discouraged (see RULE 3 above).

Watching Santa get drunk and obnoxious is fun. Babysitting Santa while they vomit in an alley is not. Don't be that Santa.

Pay your own god damn bar tab. Tip the bartenders generously for putting up with us.

AND MOST IMPORTANT HAVE SOME MERRY MERRY FUN!!!
HO HO HO-O-O-O-O!!!

Remember, the restaurant is *INSIDE* the Days Inn (where a Denny's used to be).
Go inside the hotel lobby and the door to the restaurant is on the left.

The hookah lounge needs your help

Are you or someone you know driving to the playa from the south-east this year? The hookah lounge has some things that we need sent out to the playa and back. The most important thing is our fire table that we use as the centerpiece in our camp, but other items are carpets and one of our gazebos. We'll take any space that you can spare, though, and can drive to your city to drop off/pick up the stuff.

If you were planning to rent a trailer for your stuff, we have a 10' trailer you could borrow which should have 3/4ths of the space empty (A V8 is needed if you are packing this up, though). In addition, if the early entrance gods smile nicely upon us, you can also get early playa entrance (for sunday aug 24). If you have no specific plans, you can join us at our theme camp and not have to worry about dinner (we don't cook breakfast and usually no lunch) and have a great shade area/chill space while at the burn at our luxurious location on Allante at 5:00.

If you're unfamiliar with our theme camp, you can see some of our pictures here
http://thehookahlounge.110mb.com/gallery.htm

Please contact me asap at fjordandkimshookahlounge at gmail.com if you think you can help us get some of our lounge to the playa. The list is short because we pretty much have another set of equipment in a storage locker out west, but our table is unique, and the other things we just don't have out there.

Love and hugs,
F'jord

Burning Man's statement on Transformus 2008

Dear Interested parties and attendees of Transformus:

We write you today to address the recent wave of public comment and
question about the status of Transformus as an official Burning Man
Regional Event. Beginning in March 2008, Burning Man has been in
receipt of multiple comments and complaints regarding certain aspects of
the production of Transformus and as of Monday, June 23, we made an
official statement to the Transformus LLC members regarding this matter.

Transformus is a Burning Man Regional Event that requested and received
its “official” status in 2005, during its first year in existence. As
you may know, any event that is designated as an official Burning Man
Regional Event has a relationship with one or more Burning Man Regional
Contacts, who must agree that the event will uphold and adhere not only
to Burning Man’s Ten Principles
(http://regionals.burningman.com/network_principles.html), but to an
additional set of criteria required by Burning Man designed to assure
that the event is actually legal, permitted, insured, of benefit to the
entire community, and available to all who wish to attend.

Whenever one or more formal complaints are made about an event or a
Regional Contact, Burning Man makes careful effort to address them
directly. There is a process for a formal investigation into the
allegations made in a Regional Contact/Regional Event complaint, one
that includes interviewing and engaging with as many members of the
local community as possible to gather information and make inquiry. (If
you are not familiar with the process to send us feedback about things
happening in your region, please take a look at this page:
http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_feedback.html.)

The member of the Transformus Board of Directors had themselves been
active in asking for support and guidance from Burning Man over the past
several months as the problems with this event came to a head; in fact,
in light of those requests and the comments and complaints we had
received, Burning Man sent its Regional Network Coordinator Bex Workman
to Asheville, NC in April to meet in person with the Transformus Board
of Directors as well as members of the local community to try to gain a
better understanding into the issues the organization was facing and try
to offer some support.

Part of Bex’s purpose on this trip was to obtain information and
background from as many sources as possible, and by sending a staff
member to engage in person we hoped to come to better understand the
ticketing and technology issues with Transformus that had been brought
up for review. This visit was in addition to a number of visits that Bex
had made to the area, including two annual trips to the Transformus
Work/Play weekend, and she and Steven Raspa had both made multiple other
check-in visits with active Transformus community members over the past
3 years. Both individuals had been involved in many emails and phone
conversations and mentoring with various Transformus leadership as welll.

After Bex’s most recent visit, and following months of investigation,
many phone calls, visits and conversations, the Regional Committee has
come to the conclusion that Transformus, as it exists today, has not
been able to operate in full alignment with the principles and criteria
required to be an official Burning Man Regional event in 2008.
Specifically, the investigation has determined that the event has been
unable to uphold the tenets of Civic Responsibility and Transparency.
For example, this was seen in its inability to notify participants of
their invitations in a timely fashion, and to clearly and publicly
illustrate the methodology and fairness of that invitation process – as
of this writing there still seems to be ambiguity and frustration for
some participants, and dissent about the nature of the process, and a
need for a public address of the grievances that have been raised.

One other example is the Board Of Directors’ failure to post timely
and detailed accountings of previous events’ financial reports to the
community, either through the event’s announce list, the regional
announce lists, or through the Transformus website; timely, transparent
accounting is a strong requirement in order to maintain good standing as
a Burning Man Regional Event, but it is especially important when there
have been accusations of inaccuracy in bookkeeping. We have made
recommendations about when and how to share this bookkeeping that have
not been able to be met, although we are aware that the group are still
actively pursuing making this posting.

Among the complaints that were shared with Burning Man, some of the
most prominent were related to incomplete bookkeeping and imprecise
nature of the invitation process. As we understand it, efforts are
underway to remedy this matter, but in the strictest sense, the prior
Transformus events have failed to follow the guidelines outlined by
Burning Man and cannot truly be said to have upheld those standards.

It was a very difficult decision for us to move to suspend Transformus’
official status; however, the value in having and engaging in the
Burning Man Regional Network lies in the ability to truly identify that
certain standards and benchmarks of the Burning Man community are in
place for any event, and if they cannot be met or verified readily by
the casual observer or participant, even by the best efforts of the
persons involved, it is our duty to encourage the production team to act
to bring things back into alignment, as well as to inform the public
about our official position on the event.

In this case, although we do not believe any individual engaged in
wrongdoing, we do believe that the business entity behind Transformus is
clearly faced with a need to stop and reflect, as they have done, and in
the meantime, the current state of affairs has left little choice but to
act to address the complaints and agree that Transformus organization as
it stands is not in a position to be identified officially as a Regional
Event in 2008.

However, although Burning Man has announced that Transformus 2008 will
not qualify for official Regional Event status, we do remain actively
engaged in an effort to encourage and support the Transformus board and
the many people who produce the event, and to assist them in moving
through this period as they reflect on their leadership and determine
the common goal for its future. Although there are transitions and
challenges afoot, we want to make it clear that we believe that there is
ample enthusiasm and dedication to help rally the community to resolve
these issues together and move beyond this conflict; we are confident
that you can and will create an event that your region can be proud of,
and that leadership will guide you through and hold the center, whatever
that turns out to be.

Indeed, the Burning Man Project has every intention of continuing to
offer its support to you, and it is our hope that Transformus will seek
and regain its official Regional Event status in the future. We do still
intend to send several members of our staff to support Transformus this
year; both Bex Workman and Wally Bomgaars aka:Odwally (DMV, Rangers)
will still be sent out to offer their assistance, expertise, and sweat
to help produce Transformus, just as had been previously planned; Ranger
Splinter is also still planning to conduct a Ranger Training at the event.

We also remain eager to help to connect all interested parties with any
others in the Burning Man Regional Network who might offer their insight
and assistance through their similar experiences, whoever they may be.
We are in frequent communication with the Burning Man regional contacts
in the area who are involved and concerned about this event. Regional
Contacts are individuals who have satisfied a set of established
leadership criteria to be a contact point in a particular area, and
we’re depending on them to help translate Burning Man's expectations to
the communities they represent and to let us know what other support we
might provide. Truly, although we know the ultimate solutions are up to
the community, we still want to be as supportive as possible if we can.

However, we know that the biggest component in Transformus (the event)
solving its current spate of issues is Transformus -- the community --
deciding together to figure out how to solve them. We’ve never seen it
as our place to tell another event what to do, even those within our
“Network” – we offer what we offer by way of affiliation or relationship
and shared principles, not by ownership or dictation. Our desire to help
is not about us illustrating what “we” think “you” should do – it’s

about us sharing what our experiences have been with you, introducing
you and connecting you to others with similar experiences, and offering
whatever we do know about building community and about producing events.

In this case that experience tells us that when things go off course
and personal actions are in doubt, it helps for everyone to reflect on
their shared values, sometimes in a public process, and this can help
you to see what you can do to get back to them, together.
And yes, we have the Ten Principles, and perhaps those are a place to
start a discussion, but we trust that there are many viewpoints and sets
of ideals among those who would consider themselves participants at
Transformus. Thus, we won’t deign to try to ascribe those values to
everyone who attends that event, but we do offer them as a place to
start, especially since we’ve found them useful so often ourselves.

Burning Man isn't trying to tell Transformus that we have the solution
for them, although we believe that we have tried to offer some input and
possible solutions for consideration. Ours is not to direct, dictate,
nor even to suggest what you should do in your local groups from all the
way over here in San Francisco, and no matter how many staff members we
send to visit, we only know what you and your community are telling us,
but ultimately the solutions are up to you. Either way, we’re certain
you’ll still come together and make Transformus great this year, and we
are eager to see what the future will bring.

In closing, I’d like to again emphasize that this decision was based on
careful investigation of a mass of shifting facts and information, and
was only designed to try to help the Transformus Board Of Directors and
all of you move towards building a strong community and producing an
event supporting the values of that community. We do not believe anyone
should pull out of their participation or stop working on or planning to
attend Transformus 2008 solely because of this decision on the behalf of
the Regional Network’s official event requirements. Indeed, the primary
purpose in building the Regional Network has been to facilitate a
connection amongst all of us, and we are in no way trying to negate the
importance of Transformus and its participants or its organizers as
members of the Burning Man community.

As such, we hope that it is understood by all that the Burning Man
Project will remain available to your community for questions, comments,
or support as we can offer it (remember this is a particularly busy time
for our production staff as we near the creation of Black Rock City),
and that we do believe that Transformus will find its way to the future
Self reflection and self improvement are values that can never been
underestimated in helping manifest change.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us
directly via: regionals@burningman.com

Sincerely,
Transformus No Longer A Regional Burn!!!!

Dear Mysterians,

It is with great sadness and discomfort that I announce Transformus is no longer an official Burning Man Regional Event. The Transformus Board of Directors received an e-mail from Andi Grace of Burning Man last night stating that there had been complaints made by the community. The decision to change Transformus' s status as an official burn was based on the BOD's lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency. An official statement will be released from Burning Man soon entailing all of the details in depth and their reasoning. It will also lay out the process necessary to regain or retain our status as a sanctioned Regional Burn.

The Transformus BOD would like to let everyone know that at no point in time did we mean for any of this to happen. We did our best to make sense of the madness that has occurred this year leading up to Transformus 2008. We apologize to the community for our break down in communication and our botched ticketing system. We are just a group of normal people, who tried to the best of our abilities to bring you a successful event. We are only human and the lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency was never, at any point in time, meaningfully sought out.

As many of you know, several members of the Transformus BOD have resigned. We thank them for their time, energy and devotion to this event. However, moving forward, there will be a lot of changes that will take place after Transformus 2008, and we are looking to this community to foster and implement those changes. The BOD opens the gates to the community as to where the future lies in running this event after Transformus 2008. For those of you who have wanted answers, decisions, and change, I ask you to step up to the challenge of making Transformus the way the community wants it to evolve. There are still just a few BOD members, including myself, that will help facilitate the means to making the situation at hand better after the event. Until that day and time, I respectfully and earnestly ask all of you to bring positivity and not negativity to our community.

Finally, for all of those in the community who wanted action and change, here is your opportunity to do something. The event is less than a month out ,and we can come out of the darkness and produce a great event that is fun, meaningful, transformative. ..not just a party in the woods. To all of you who are still coming and making it to Transformus 2008, we want to personally thank you for believing in the magical place known as Mysteria. Despite all the drama, anger, and confusion, we will rise to make Transformus 2008, the best one to date.

Positively Yours,

DTR

Blitz: Kamp Krieg fundraiser July 3-6

Blitz – the benefit party weekend for Kamp Krieg

Blitz is a camping holiday weekend celebration being held on 10 acres of woodlands near Siler City, NC July 3-6. We're bringing the fire, debauchery, food, thumpa-thumpa, trampolines, boffer swords, and more. It's all burner tested, burner approved. Our Grill Master will be preparing tasty foods for your enjoyment, in both carnivorous and hippie varieties. Our party veterans will ensure you remain properly "hydrated" at all times. All proceeds contribute directly to your enjoyment of Kamp Krieg at numerous regional burns.

We know you're gonna have as much fun coming as we will putting it on, but don't forget the important things: Costumes, Art, Blinkies, Musical Instruments, Fire Toys, and anything else you need to get your creative spirit fired up.

This is a primitive camping LNT event . Unless you bring your mama, YOU are responsible for cleaning up after yourself, including removing your trash from the site. There is no car camping, but vehicles will be parked inside Gate.

All attendees must be 18+: a valid photo ID must be presented at Gate. NO EXCEPTIONS. Only ticket holders with a valid photo ID will be granted entrance to Blitz. You will receive directions to the site and specific details about this unforgettable event. Due to space limitations, Blitz is capped at 200 people, so tickets are very likely to sell out. Please do not forward directions or details to non-ticket holders.

Tickets are available in Greensboro, NC by calling 336.669.6964 or online for $20 from now until July 1st. www.BrownPaperTickets.com/event/37256 After July 1, all remaining tickets will be available first-come, first-served at $30 each.

The Rules...there's always rules, but this one is simple... You costume must be made of tube socks!!

Yes, you may bling your tube socks and you may use whatever means necessary to combine or alter the tube socks into whatever type of body covering you desire...but ultimately, your costume must be made of tube socks!! If you dare to arrive without a costume made of tube socks, you will be forced to strip on the spot, given a single tube sock and a shot of your favorite elixer, and wished the best of luck.

Hey folks..few quick things here:
First...who/what fire people are somewhat close to Ft.Pierce/St.Lucie? ANYbody? Wanted to get some performers possibly together for upcoming shows and also need help rewicking my tools!!!
What fire or major entertainment events are still upcoming in Fl? Im already booked for FantasyFest, but would like to hit them all up.
If you are putting together a show, workshop or are part of the Fl entertainment community, please let me know. I am scouting events to perform at which would get free Monster Energy Drinks/Merch since they are my sponsors....so YOUR event would be sponsored if I am part of it. How hawt is that???
Cant wait to start travelling and meeting all the burners around here;>

Roommate needed in Orlando

Pagan/Artist/Burner seeks roommate to rent room in 2,900 SF house with hardwood floors on 1.4 acres in Orlando (zip 32818), rent includes all utilities.

I have a couple of dogs that are indoors most of the timme.

If you're interested give me a call at 407.694.7151

Anybody here acquainted with a certain phreek named Pee-Wee. Hails from Chi-town (south side, of course) but now resides in the Miami area.

Distinguishing marks include a recently-acquired far-away gaze that comes from hours of sitting idly by and watching everyone else slave away in the dusty heat of a Peruvian disaster zone. Probably still has concrete in his hair that I and others threw at him for being such a lazy phucker!!

Would appreciate the opportunity to throw a perfectly-crafted Mojito down the crack of his arse.

Thanx in advance!

There is so much to say about this past weekend, so look for a much longer post after the dust settles, but I didn't want to wait another moment to thank EVERYONE for participating and making the inaugural PreHeat the most magnificent weekend! Yes, I spent a lot of time on the planning and organzing and my weekend revolved around making sure everything executed smoothly, but NONE of it was WORK!!! It was all a complete pleasure to do because I knew I was creating magic for so many people. So I thank you for helping breath life into our little city.

Filled with gratitude and love for you all...

Humbly...

Storm

PS I would really like suggestions from those of you that were there as to what we should name our little city. Send in your suggestions and I'll post a poll on the website next month so we can vote.

PreHeat Work/Play next Weekend 4/12

Preparations go on and we reach ever closer to PreHeating to 420, so come out next Saturday to Maddox Ranch and help us get the site ready. Even if you can't make it to the event, this is a great chance to hang out with some of the most wonderful Burners around :)

We'll mainly be collecting fire wood and treating for fire ants. If you have any wood or pallets you'd like to donate for the burn this would be a great time to drop it off. If you have a chain saw you can bring or some sort of vehicle cable of transporting the fire wood to the burn areas please bring it.

I'd also like to be able to mark out the Theme Camp areas, so if anyone has any of those wood marker stakes they'd like to donate please let me know too.

Other than that bring workgloves, beverages, and snacks for yourself and to share if you like. I plan on getting there by 10:30 AM on Saturday. Maddox is located at 2505 W. Bella Vista St., Lakeland, FL 33810.

Visiting Burner 3/28-4/1

I have been contacted by Ilana, aka Madam Firefly, from a fire troupe out of California that would like to meet some other burners and/or fire peeps. She will be here from 3/28 to 4/1. I want to have a Poi in the Park on Saturday, 3/29 and fire on Clearwater Beach on Saturday night. Please let me know if any of you are interested in either or both! Maybe we can have a small party on Friday or Sunday night or something if someone wants to put one together or offer up their place. We may offer our place up for the party, we have done fire there, so we have the neighbors broken in already but not a whole lot of parking. Let me know what you think! Message me if you need my number.
Big hugs!

i'm visiting my mom in miami starting sunday and just realized it's the same time as the WMC. kind of interested in going to see bassnectar at circa 28. anyone from this tribe going? i'm not keen on going to things like this alone. of course i could see bassnectar here in the bay area, but it might be fun to go to a WMC show.

Hi Florida Burners!

We just sailed into St Pete from Reno, NV! We're positively interested in finding out what's going on in the area of Fire Spinning and Drum Circles near St Pete? As well, we read a few sites saying there were Drum Circles on the beach, any gorilla Burns happening on the shores?

Looking forward to meeting you all!
